Funny People, is a comedy drama directed by Judd Apatow about how the near-death experience of a well-known comedian affects his life. George Simmons (Adam Sandler), a successful but self-involved stand-up comedian discovers that his incurable blood disorder has left him with just about a year to live. One night, a struggling and up-and-coming stand-up comedian, Ira Wright (Seth Rogen) impresses George with his performance. He then hires Ira as his semi-personal assistant and also makes him do the opening act at his performances. Both George and Ira do not have any close friends and soon develop a unique relationship as George instructs Ira on how to impress the audiences and Ira helps the failing George find the finality in his legacy. However, when George later learns that his disease is on the decline and his former lover Laura (Leslie Mann) reenters his life, he is inspired by his recent near death experience to reconsider the priorities as well as what truly matters in his life.
